About

Work

Since November 2006 I am working sideline at the computing centre of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. After working as a web developer on a navigation editor for the HTML template catalogue of the university, I got the chance to be a part of the Campus IT team. Campus IT is the creator of the mein campus platform, where students can register for exams, look up their results, download and print certificates (e.g. their student id card) and more. Lecturers use mein campus for example to schedule exams, post exam results or simply to obtain a list of exam participants.

As the front-end designer and web developer of Campus IT, I am responsible for almost all of the front-end design of mein campus and the XHTML, CSS and Javascript that is working behind the curtains.

Formal Education

Since 2005 I am enrolled in the computer science course at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. My major subjects are software engineering, database systems (and data management in general) and media informatics; my minor subject is information technology. I also attended lectures on aspect oriented programming, web technology related topics and a tutorial on web application development in Java.

I am currently writing a student research paper (“Studienarbeit”) about document exchange in medical environments. I will finish my studies in spring 2010 with a diploma degree in computer science.

“mein campus” is a on-line service provided by the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, where students can register for exams, look up their results, and download and print certificates (e.g. their student ID card). It is also the central service for examiners to schedule exams, post results, or simply download a list of participants for a certain exam.
The system also handles on-line enrolment and application to university.

This project is realized by Campus IT, a subsection of the university's computing centre, with a core team of ten.

I am responsible for all things front-end design and development, including logo design.
The current UI is based on a 960 pixel, twelve column grid, which offers maximum flexibility and can be adjusted for all our needs. Various unobtrusive Javascript snippets offer a more streamlined user experience without breaking accessibility. “mein campus” does—of course—adhere to web standards and tries to produce valid mark-up (on some pages the back-end system does not allow this).
